Isolated central nervous system aspergillosis caused by Aspergillus nidulans in a patient with acute promyelocytic leukemia.
Aspergillus nidulans is an opportunistic fungus that is generally found in soil and decaying vegetation. Pulmonary disease is the most common manifestation of this opportunistic infection. Central nervous system (CNS) aspergillosis is rare, and most of these cases have been associated with disseminated disease and are caused by Aspergillus fumigatus. Aspergillus nidulans is a saprophytic mold that can cause CNS infections and should be considered as a potential pathogen in patients with predisposing conditions.
