As well as many other questions posted here on Stackoverflow. I’ve also confirmed that IIS is set up to use windows authentication:
The application pool is set to use integrated windows authentication.
The web.config is set correctly (I have “inbound windows” set to true).
The actual IIS settings are set for “integrated Windows Authentication” with no redirect.
The paths to the main web.config and the machine.config are correct.
The machine name and account name are both set to the same users as all of the other applications on the server.
I’ve tried using IE 9 and Firefox, which use Windows 7 security, and Chrome, which uses Windows 8 security. I’ve also tried using a domain account and a local user account. The result is always the same. The user tries to access the site and gets a username and password form to fill out (except for Chrome, which doesn’t show any form at all).
Most of the answers I’ve read refer to using Application Pool Identity instead of Local System as the identity of the app pool. However, I tried this and it didn’t work either.
