One of the most important “specials” for the Ranma ½ anime in Japan is the 1st TV special, Ranma 1/2, which was aired April 15, 1989 on Fuji TV and produced by Daiei.[18] The special was remade and aired again, on Dec. 12, 2008, in a half-hour time slot on Fuji TV.[17] This is the first of the Ranma ½ TV special series that ran on the most iconic timeslot of prime time, 10 pm, from 1989 to 1992 for 143 episodes.[6] It is also a notable TV special in that the series which began as Rumiko Takahashi’s manga became an anime with the massive impact of the huge popularity of her creation, Rumiko Takahashi.[19] The special was the first original anime to be produced by Studio Deen and is still the only Ranma ½ TV special made by this studio—it is a level crushing reveal that the studio that created Ranma ½ is a fanwork studio and in many ways a huge opportunity for any fans of the Ranma ½ manga and anime.[13]
The OAVs (Original Animation videos) are some of the most sort after collectibles for the Ranma ½ anime. The first ran in 1989 by Daiei and produced by Studio Deen. They followed with the second season that ran from 1990 to 1992 for 143 episodes.
